FILM AS A MEDIA EDUCATOR’S TOOL
Elokuvalisenssi online service is our new service platform that reduces the time spent on planning teaching and facilitates film education. It is easy to use. All you need to do is register as a user, and you’ll be able to search for top films based on, e.g., level of education, subjects and keywords. Elokuvalisenssi online service provides you a film library, teaching materials and flexible search features within the same service.
The teaching and discussion materials in the Elokuvalisenssi service have been prepared by experts of the School Cinema Association (Koulukino). The School Cinema Association is a national film education association funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The goal of the collaboration is to provide quality learning materials for all levels of education and to promote and support film education work and cultural education at schools.
Using the Elokuvalisenssi online service is free, but copyright law requires the acquisition of screening licences for the public screening of films. Screening licences are location-specific. Read more about the annual Elokuvalisenssi here.
PUBLIC SCREENING OF FILMS
According to copyright law, public screening of films in places such as schools, youth centres or libraries requires a licence. Filmed works are protected by copyright law also when only short excepts of them are shown for purposes such as adding depth to the teaching of a subject. For public screening, you will need a licence from the copyright holders or a party authorised to represent them. A licence is not needed when the viewing takes place at home or with a small circle of friends.

Using the Elokuvalisenssi online service is free, but Finnish copyright law requires the acquisition of screening licences for the public screening of films. The annual Film Licence will provide you bundled screening rights for the selection of Elokuvalisenssi.fi as well as thousands of other films from the largest production companies in the industry.
