Lady Bird

In the hilarious drama-comedy, Christine, who calls herself “Lady Bird”, struggles with the cross-pressure of her school’s rigid traditions, caring parents, first heartaches, and big dreams for the future. Lady Bird is on a collision course with her strong-willed nurse mother. This works tirelessly to keep the family afloat after the father becomes unemployed. Both are carved from the same wood and have the same bull’s head.

The story, which takes place at the beginning of the 21st century, tells a touching story about human relationships that shape us, beliefs that define us, and a place called home, the meaning of which is irreplaceable.

Maleficent

“Maleficent” is the previously untold story of Disney’s most traditional villain, who became famous in the 1959 classic “Princess Sleeping”. The villain is a young woman who lives an idyllic life in a peaceful kingdom in the middle of the forest, until one day a foreign army threatens the peace of the land.

The villain valiantly defends the kingdom, but falls being victim to betrayal, and his pure heart turns hard as stone. Revenge on his mind, the Evil One engages in a final battle against the successor of the conquering king and places a curse on his newborn daughter, Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and at the same time, perhaps also the key to Maleficent’s true happiness.

The Danish Girl 

A touching love story based on the lives of Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. 1926 Copenhagen-based artist Einar Wegener, who is married to Gerda Wegener, is known for his landscape paintings. Gerda is also an artist, less well known, but employed as a portrait painter of celebrities. Their marriage is strong and full of love.

Everything changes when Gerda asks her husband to pose as a model and wear a woman’s outfit to complete her painting. The experience changes the couple’s entire life. Einar notices that when he is Lili, he is able to realize himself at his truest and begins to live as a woman. Gerda, on the other hand, finds a new muse in Lili and matures into a new blossoming as an artist. The couple also has to face the prejudices of the surrounding society. They leave their home country for a more open-minded Paris. Again and again, Gerda shows her support for Lili.

Directed by Tom Hooper. As actors, e.g. Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard. Movie won an Oscar from Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Raya and the Last Dragon

Long ago in a fantasy land called Kumandra, humans and dragons lived side by side in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, the same evil has returned. A lone warrior, Raya must search for the mythical last dragon capable of uniting a broken country and a divided people.

The Witches

A young orphaned boy moves to live with his beloved grandmother in the small town of Demopolis, Alabama. When the boy and the grandmother encounter deceptively stylish, but thoroughly devilish witches, the grandmother rushes our young hero to the safety of a wonderful seaside resort.

Erityiset on koskettava draama, jossa huumori ja lämpö kietoutuvat yhteen. Ella Bella Bingo is a fast-paced, warm and funny film for the whole family with an important message. The children in the film have to think about friend envy, competition in friendships and what a good friend is like. In the movie, we learn, for example, about sharing a friend, negotiation and talking about feelings and thoughts. But when Rahil unexpectedly disappears, Zain must muster all his strength, courage and ingenuity to take care of himself and Yonas.
