Nightmare – Painajainen merellä

Peppi embarks on a long-awaited cruise with her friends. In the cheerful atmosphere of the beginning of the voyage, Peppi encounters old acquaintances, which also bring unpleasant memories from the past. The merry atmosphere soon turns into a mixture of fear and uncertainty as strange occurrences begin to unfold on the ship, and members of the party go missing. The film features actors who are currently or have been part of the Salatut Elämät TV series.

The movie was awarded the Audience Favorite Certificate at the Jussi Awards Gala.

The title “Paradise’s Children” tells the story of three generations of women: Eva, her mother, the laundress Hartikainen, and her daughter Päivikki. The central character in this lighthearted comedy is the forty-year-old businesswoman Eeva Salminen. Strong-willed and ambitious, Eeva is a Sunday child who determinedly climbs the social ladder. Her dream is the construction of the ultimate building, the spa hotel Paradiso Baltica. Along her journey, Eeva encounters greedy bureaucrats and other predators who want their share of the project, but Eeva has means she is willing to use without asking for a price.

The film is directed by Rauni Mollberg.

The Unknown Soldier (1985)

During the interim peace, a medical examination is carried out in the machine gun company of the Eastern Finnish wilderness garrison, and training is conducted for future battles. In June, the departure order arrives towards the unknown, and the company is transported to the eastern border. Officers listen solemnly to the Minister’s speech on the radio about the final victory, and in captured Petrozavodsk, Finnish victory celebrations have already begun. In the summer of 1944, the Soviet Union launches a major offensive, and the Finnish forces begin to retreat. Author Väinö Linna fully supported Rauni Mollberg’s film project and was initially involved in its scriptwriting. Although Edwin Laine’s direction held its ground, new perspectives were sought for the remake of ‘The Unknown Soldier.’ The actors are younger because the main idea is the path of a young person into war and its absurdity. At the same time, it is a tribute to those who have gone through it all.

The film was directed by Rauni Mollberg based on Väinö Linna’s novel ‘The Unknown Soldier.’

Mertsi Vepsäläinen went to war with a firm intention to save an entire nation, but as a war invalid with a head injury, his entire will is now focused on saving his colleague’s Finnish Spitz, Sakke, from destruction. He embarks on a multi-phased journey that takes him through the harsh winter landscapes of Finland, where war reparations are being paid, to rigorous forestry work, culminating in a dramatic attempt to trim Sakke the dog’s overgrown dewclaws.

Badding

A fairytale-like depiction of the shy hero of Finnish rock, Rauli ‘Badding’ Somerjoki, portrays the whirlwind of a sensitive country boy amidst the harsh touring life. According to the director’s own words, the movie ‘is neither true nor false,’ but rather a fantasy that allows for various interpretations. Based on flashback sequences, the narrative begins with moments preceding the aging rock star’s comeback concert. The stage-frightened Badding-Rauli hits the road, fleeing. An old friend, Ossi, becomes Rauli’s chauffeur, although his motives are not entirely sincere. The road to Somero is burdened with memories, but the most crucial element, friendship, is discovered after all.

The film splendidly earned four different Jussi Awards: Best Film, Best Actor (Janne Reinikainen), Best Cinematography (Kari Sohlberg), Best Production Design (Minna Santakari), and Best Costume Design (Tiina Kaukanen).

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

In 1944, during World War II, American archaeologist Indiana Jones and his colleague Basil Shaw are in Europe searching for artifacts stolen by the Nazis. They’re attempting to prevent Nazi scientist Jürgen Voller from acquiring the Archimedes Chronometer, a device capable of time travel. Voller and the chronometer ultimately vanish without a trace. Twenty-five years later, Indiana feels uneasy as the U.S. government decides to recruit former Nazis to assist in the space race against the Soviet Union. Voller, now known as a former Nazi and a NASA member involved in the Apollo lunar landing program, aims to make the world a better place by acquiring the Archimedes Chronometer. Indiana, along with his goddaughter Helena, embarks on a journey to seize the object before the world descends into real chaos.
