No Thank You

The comedy tells the story of a forty-something married couple where the husband is no longer interested in having sex with his wife. Heli Valkonen is desperately in love with her husband. But Matti simply isn’t in the mood. Ever. He just plays computer games in his worn-out fleece pants. Shoulder massages are his idea of intimacy. When subtle hints, sweet talk, and alluring outfits don’t work, Heli resorts to direct—and increasingly bold—action, but to no avail. Mildly and humiliatingly, Matti rejects his wife’s advances.

Heli meets Jarno, a young producer. Before long, Heli and Jarno are having an affair. “Just a little bit of sex. A few thrusts. That doesn’t count,” Heli says, thinking, “To buy more time for my marriage, I have to cheat. After that, I’ll know what I want—and what I don’t want.” The situation escalates when Heli realizes she’s fallen in love with Jarno. She decides to confess everything to Matti. But things don’t go as Heli plans.

Anu Sinisalo won the Jussi Award for Best Actress for her role.
