Maarit (played by Leea Klemola) is going through a major transition in life, as she recently underwent gender reassignment surgery and corrected her gender to female. However, Maarit must navigate the pitfalls of her past to move forward in life. She wants to reconcile with her ex-wife, build a relationship with her teenage daughter, and help other people. Maarit also longs to share the joys, sorrows, and her bed with someone. When Maarit meets Sami (played by Peter Franzén), who is struggling with a marital crisis, at the psychiatrist’s office, she believes she has found the right one.

The father of the Kuura family, Mikko, has been diagnosed with a hereditary disease. He has not been able to come to terms with it or discuss it. As his condition worsens, his wife Mirjami has decided that it’s time to tell the children.

Sakari, Mikko’s son from a previous marriage, has been abroad for years. He has fled from his father and his demands to continue the family business. Pihla, the family’s 15-year-old daughter, wants to start her own independent life, and Lumi, the daughter adopted from China, begins a secret journey to find her own roots. Mikko’s illness brings the members of the Kuura family together under the same roof for the first time, forcing them to address questions of family continuity and to open up about long-standing issues within the family.

What will remain of us? Clothes wear out in a few years. Dishes are kept until the next move. Furniture breaks or goes out of style. A pile of memories – they last until no one remembers anymore.

In the movie Sokkotanssi (Trans. Blind Dance), the 60s are lived in a small Finnish town by the sea. Another of the main actors is a boy named Jontti. He is a very curious child who finds out about his father’s secret relationship with another woman. Jontti’s best friend from the neighborhood is Länki, who misses his father who lives out of reach. These aspects of life put a lot of pressure on the boys’ minds, which makes them do all kinds of naughtiness.

The film has well-known Finnish actors. Jontti’s father is Martti Suoaho, Pirkka-Pekka Petelius plays a barber and Vesa-Matti Loiri plays an alcoholic citizen in a small supporting role. Movie uses subtle humor, but also drama.

The film won the Jussi award for best screenplay.

Koulukino’s learning material is aimed at secondary and middle school studies. The tasks include tips for processing the film, tasks on film analysis, film timeline, pranks, dramaturgy, and the director Matti Ijäs. The educational material for this film is also available in Swedish.

In the story of the film, the lives of three people meet by chance due to common factors. Francis works in Finland without a work and residence permit, while Jere illegally brings growth hormones into Finland. The third participant is Vera and Aleksi, an ex-married couple suffering from relationship problems.

The film was nominated for four Jussi awards: best cinematography, sound design, editing, and costume design.

Koulukino’s learning material is aimed at high schools and vocational schools. The assignments deal with e.g. film locations, film script, information about the plot offered to the viewer, choices of characters, and immigration policy.
