The Woman King is about a disciplined army unit of agojie warriors that operated in the 19th century in the African kingdom of Dahomey. Agojie was made up entirely of women and they were not allowed to fall in love or have children.
General Nanisca (Oscar winner Viola Davis) is a battle-hardened and emotionally locked-down leader of the Agoji who does her best to train a new generation to defend the King of Dahomey as their kingdom faces an unprecedented and dangerous threat.
