Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness

2022 | 91 min | K-7 | adventure, animation, comedy

Kanakani is the adopted son of the famous adventurer, King Charles. He is born different from the others: half chicken, half rabbit. It’s not easy to stand out when you’re young, so Kanakani tries to hide his chicken-like legs from the eyes of others.

Kanakan’s biggest dream is to become an adventurer like his father. When the king’s evil brother Arvid threatens to seize power, Kanakani sees his chance. With his loyal friend Hugo the turtle and Meri the skunk who becomes his guide, he goes in search of the lost hamster scepter of doom, which gives its bearer incredible powers. To save the kingdom, they must get their hands on the scepter before the evil Uncle Arvid finds it.

During the adventure, Kanakani finds out that being unique can be an advantage in hero jobs. The warm-hearted and fast-paced Kanakani and the hamster of doom are made by the same creators as Bigfoot – The Bigfoot Family and Corgi – The Queen’s Puppy. (Source: Finnkino Oy)

For media educator

The life of the eager and adventurous Kanakan is limited by the insecurity related to appearance. Throwing himself into the adventure, however, he gradually learns that being different is an asset instead of a shame, and also that everyone has their secret, insecure places. The film's fast-paced and warm-hearted story has drawn inspiration from Indiana Jones-type adventure films. The themes are the power of cooperation and friendship as well as acceptance of difference and self.
